Emi and I visited Asimo today. Been so busy and have had so little wifi access! More Posts to come soon… Tomorrow is my solo show at Nanahari in Tokyo, details here: http://www.artuniongroup.co.jp/plancha/top/zs/zs-greg-fox-nanahri/
Today we traveled from Tokyo to Nagoya, which was not an easy feat! Yesterday there was a big snowstorm in Tokyo and the roads were still very icy today. It was nearly impossible to drive out of Tokyo, as was originally planned. We ended up getting on the bullet train. I passed out immediately and we woke up right at the Nagoya train station, just in time to grab all our stuff and jump onto the platform. We are at the venue now, soundcheck went smoothly, and now one of the other bands on the bill is setting up. They have a million guitar effects pedals! Looking forward to hearing their sounds. I wonder what Nagoya is like! Can’t wait to find out more.
In Japanese my last name translates to キツネ “Kitsune”. I like that…
I have been having an amazing time! And we have been so extremely busy that I have not had time to update this trip blog, let alone email my family or friends at home.
Today is the final day of the ZS Score installation at the Vacant gallery in Tokyo. It’s been going really well and I think we have been getting a better and better sense of how to actually do this thing, beyond just conceptualizing it.
Two nights ago Shinji Masuko (DMBQ, Boredoms) did an improv set with us at the galley. What an honor to play music with him! And last night Dustin did the same, and it was also great - but even better than that was our duo set later last night!!! We recorded it, so we will see what happens with that…. Very excited!
Pictures to come…

Today was a full day! We left Tokyo at 11am and took the train to Osaka. Our new friends Kay and Mongoloid (I’m assuming that’s his nickname but who knows) met us at the train station with an Asahi gift set, at which point it became clear that it was okay to drink a beer in public in Japan.
Kay writes and arranges the music for the band Vampillia, who we played with tonight - they were great - orchestral, doomy, with operatic vocals, piano, violin, shredding, costumes, etc. The whole 9 as they say. Mongoloid turned out to be the singer, his performance was awesome. Pictures and maybe video coming soon. In the small world department, it turns out that Ben Frost produced a record of theirs, they gave me a copy. THANKS VAMPILLIA! also the drummer’s name is Tornado. Not to generalize or anything but Japan is fucking awesome.
A brief list of today’s activities:
ate rice balls and hot bottled tea from family mart
took the train from tokyo to osaka
drank asahi on the street
ate udon
played darts
played the show
ate tokiyaki
ate ramen
Tomorrow we leave the hotel at 10:30am and head back to Tokyo, where we will play some shows and do the Score install at the Vacant gallery. More info on that here. Its late! Time to go to sleep.

one of my favorite visual artists has a retrospective in NYC which goes through march. I highly recommend spending some time with Paul’s work if you get the chance.
The fact that there was any debate over whether to call in experts on such a matter should tell you something about the integrity of Congress. It’d be one thing if legitimate technical questions directed at the bill’s supporters weren’t met with either silence or veiled accusations that the other side was sympathetic to piracy. Yet here we are with a group of elected officials openly supporting a bill they can’t explain, and having the temerity to suggest there’s no need to “bring in the nerds” to suss out what’s actually on it… The chilling takeaway of this whole debacle was the irrefutable air of anti-intellectualism; that inescapable absurdity that we have members of Congress voting on a technical bill who do not posses any technical knowledge on the subject and do not find it imperative to recognize those who do.
This used to be funny, but now it’s really just terrifying. We’re dealing with legislation that will completely change the face of the internet and free speech for years to come. Yet here we are, still at the mercy of underachieving Congressional know-nothings that have more in common with the slacker students sitting in the back of math class than elected representatives. The fact that some of the people charged with representing us must be dragged kicking and screaming out of their complacency on such matters is no longer endearing — it’s just pathetic and sad.
Where’s the off switch for Congress?
